PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

Athens, Ohio – Ohio volleyball and field hockey finally open their home slates this week, while football heads to Florida. Check out that and what else ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints. 

FOOTBALL
Sept. 9 / at Florida Atlantic / Boca Raton, Fla. / FAU Football Stadium / 6 p.m. EST / ESPN+ / Watch / Live Stats / Audio / Digital Guide

The Ohio football team (1-1) is back on the road for its final nonconference road game of the season on Saturday, Sept. 9 when the Bobcats head to Boca Raton, Fla. to take on Florida Atlantic (1-0). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. inside FAU Football Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+ where James Westling, Leger Douzable and Smacker Miles will be on the call. 

Ohio is coming off a 27-10 victory over LIU on Saturday in Athens. Quarterbacks Parker Navarro and CJ Harris combined for three touchdowns, while running back Sieh Bangura rushed for 107 yard. Linebacker Bryce Houston recorded a team-high 11 tackles, had one sack and one interception in the win. Bangura and Houston earned MAC East Weekly Honors for their performances last weekend. 

MEN'S GOLF

The Ohio men's golf team continues play on Monday at the 2023 Island Resort Intercollegiate. The two-day event is hosted by South Dakota State Sept. 3-4 at Sage Run Golf Course in Harris, Mich.The Bobcats open the tournament with 36 holes on Sunday, before finishing the tournament with 18 holes on Monday. Competing with Ohio are: Boise State, Bowling Green, Costal Carolina, Illinois State, Miami, Michigan, North Texas, South Dakota State, St. Mary's and UCF. 

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's golf team continues play at the 2023 A-Ga-Ming Invitational hosted by Central Michigan at the Sundance Golf Course Sept. 3-4 in Kewadin, Mich. Ohio begins the tournament on Sunday with 36 holes, before wrapping up the weekend on Monday with 18 holes. Also competing with the Bobcats are: Abilene Christian, Bradley, Central Michigan, Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Green Bay, Niagara, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne and Western Michigan.

The Ohio volleyball team (4-2) returns to Athens for the first time in 2023 for the 2023 Bobcat Invitational Sept. 7-9 inside the Convocation Center. 

The action begins on Thursday, Sept. 7 when the Bobcats open the weekend with one match against UTEP (4-1). First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. 

Friday begins as action-filled day in the Convo starting at 10:30 a.m. when NC State (5-1) and William and Mary (5-2) take the court. William and Mary is back on the court at 4 p.m. to take on UTEP, before Ohio closes out the day against NC State at 6 p.m.

Saturday begins at 11 a.m. with UTEP and NC State closing out the neutral site matches, before Ohio takes the court at 2 p.m. to close out the tournament at 2 p.m.

All six matches of the weekend will be streamed on ESPN+

Ohio is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the 2023 Dayton Flyer Classic last weekend in Dayton, Ohio. The Bobcats defeated Butler, 3-1 and North Dakota State, 3-1, before falling to Dayton in five sets. After the weekend, Anna Kharchynska and Caroline Clippard were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Ohio soccer (2-1-2) team is back in action this week for two matches. The weekend starts off on Thursday, Sept. 7 when the Bobcats head to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State (2-2-1). First touch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and can be seen on BIG+. Ohio then heads to Harrisonburg, Va. Sunday, Sept. 10 to take on James Madison (2-2-2) at Sentara Park. First touch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Ohio is coming off a 0-0 draw against Northern Kentucky on Sunday at Chessa Field on Senior Day.

The Ohio field hockey (1-2) team finally returns to Athens for their 2023 home opener on Sunday, Sept. 10 when the Bobcats host Indiana (1-2). First touch is scheduled for Noon at Pruitt Field. The match will also be streamed on ESPN+, which is the first time during the regular season that an Ohio field hockey game will be on the ESPN platform from Athens, Ohio. 

The Bobcats are coming off a 1-1 weekend in Maine after defeating Boston University, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. Katelyn Whittle finished the weekend with three goals and an assist.
