ORONO, MAINE – The Ohio field hockey team (1-1) gained its first win of the season Saturday afternoon (Sept. 2) against Boston University (1-2), winning 2-1.

Overall, the Bobcats recorded eight total shots, with four coming on target. The Bobcats received six penalty corners and three saves.

Individually, the Bobcats were lead by fifth year Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.), who notched two goals in the first 10 minutes of game time, which lead the Bobcats to their victory. Whittle also lead the Bobcats in total shots (three) and shots on goal (two).

Senior goalkeeper Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) played the full 60 minutes, only allowing one goal and saving three shots.

The Bobcats got out to a quick 2-0 lead early against the Terriers, with two goals from Whittle, who scored exactly four minutes into the game, assisted by both sophomore Anouk Plaehn (Lower Saxony, Germany) and fifth year Weslee Littlefield (Oakland, Maine) – Littlefield assisting in her home state of Maine. Whittle scored her second goal of the game and period with under a minute left. Whittle leads the Bobcats in goals and points with three and six respectively.

The Bobcats were able to sustain pressure into the second quarter but were unable to find a goal throughout the quarter. The Terriers pushed late into the quarter, but the Bobcats' defense held on strong. The Bobcats ended the second quarter with the same lead they took in at 2-0. At the half, The Bobcats had outshot the Terriers 6-5 and received a 6-2 advantage on penalty corners. Whittle and senior Meela Kopp (Louisville, Ky.) lead the way with two shots each, and Lotze recorded one save.

The Bobcats took their 2-0 lead late into the third quarter, but the Terriers were able to convert on a break and sneak a shot into the bottom-left of the Bobcat net to cut the lead to one. The lead would stay at one headed into the final quarter.

Both sides continued to mount pressure into the fourth quarter, but no one was able to break through early. The Bobcats' offensive pressure mounted, but neither team were able to find goal in the fourth quarter, ending the game with the Bobcats' first victory of the year. This was also the Bobcats' first win against the Terriers all-time.

The Bobcats continue their Maine trip to face off against Maine tomorrow – Sunday, September 3 at 12 p.m. ET. The Bobcats will look to take both games on the road trip and head back to Athens with a winning record.
