Ohio Baseball Defeats Shawnee State, 7-2

 ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio baseball team (16-20, 13-5 MAC) defeated the Shawnee State Bears (8-36, 6-21 RSC) at Bob Wren Stadium Tuesday evening, 7-2.

Individually, junior Cole Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) led the way, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Freshman Billy Adams (Medina, Ohio) also went 2-for-3 while redshirt sophomore AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) finished the day 2-for-5 and scored twice. 

Rausch opened the bottom of the first with a single through the right side, advancing to second on a balk and stealing third before Minzey was hit by a pitch. After Minzey advanced on a wild pitch, Williams drove in both baserunners with a single up the middle. The Bears evened the score, 2-2, the next inning with a two-run home run. 

Rausch led off the fifth inning with another single, reaching third after stealing both second and third before scoring off a wild pitch. The Bobcats continued to extend their lead; doubles from Williams and fifth year Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) drove in three more runs, giving Ohio a 6-2 lead. 

After opening the bottom of the eighth with a single, redshirt sophomore Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stole second and advanced to third on a Shawnee State throwing error. Adams drove in Dolan with an RBI single, extending the Bobcats' lead to five runs. 

The Bears attempted to rally, but sophomore Hudson Boncal (Corona, Calif.) drew two swinging strikeouts to end the game, solidifying Ohio's 7-2 victory. 

Up next, the Bobcats travel to Kent, Ohio for a three -game series against the Kent State Golden Flashes April 28-30. First pitch is on Friday is set for 6 p.m. at Olga Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium.
