ATHENS, OHIO – The Ohio baseball team (10-14, 8-4 MAC) swept the Eastern Michigan Eagles (11-13, 4-8 MAC) at Bob Wren Stadium today (April 2). The Bobcats held the Eagles to four runs in each game, coming from behind to win the first game, 8-4, and taking the second game, 6-4.

Individually, fifth year Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) led the way, finishing the day 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBIs. Redshirt sophomore AJ Rasuch (Powell, Ohio) also recorded three hits, scoring twice himself, while senior Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) led the team with five RBIs.

Redshirt junior Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.) was credited with the game one win. Tate recorded three strikeouts and held Eastern Michigan scoreless in his four innings pitched. Junior Trent Spoon (Bourbonnais, Ill.) got the start game two, allowing three runs on four hits and recording three strikeouts. Fifth year Braxton Kelly (Ulysses, Ky.) closed the game and was credited with the save, allowing one hit in one inning pitched.

GAME ONE

The first inning began with Eastern Michigan hitting two home runs early and gaining a quick 3-0 lead over the Bobcats. Minzey answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run. The Eagles tallied on one run in the fourth, going up 4-2.

The Bobcats took over in the bottom of the sixth. An error by Eastern Michigan led to Ohio scoring their first run of the inning. Finney hit a two-RBI single to bring two Bobcats across home plate, giving Ohio their first lead of the day. Ohio continued to add to their lead with an RBI single from redshirt sophomore Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and capped off the impressive inning with two consecutive walks, bringing the score to 8-4.

Ohio's defense held Eastern Michigan the rest of the game and the Bobcats won game one of the doubleheader, 8-4.

"I try to force contact, especially when we're making good plays," said Tate. "Knowing that you have guys behind you, it's not one versus one it's nine versus one out there."

GAME TWO

The Bobcats got on the board first with a solo homer from Minzey, marking his second of the day. Ohio grew their lead in the bottom of the third when junior Alec Patino (Sioux City, Iowa) hit a sacrifice fly, driving Rausch across home plate.

Eastern Michigan answered in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs and going up 3-2. The Bobcats quickly tied the game after capitalizing on a throwing error in the bottom of the inning. A three-run homerun hit by Finney gave the lead back to Ohio, 6-3.

The Eagles cut into Ohio's lead with an RBI single in the eighth, but Ohio's defense shut down the Eastern Michigan batters, winning game two 6-4.

"Eastern Michigan came ready to play. We came out ready to fight even more," said Minzey. " It's great for us going forward and to light up the latter part of the seqason with some good opponents."

Up next, the Bobcats return to Bob Wren Stadium Tuesday, April 4 to take on Morehead State. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET.
