KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ohio volleyball team (18-13, 13-5 MAC) concluded its season with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 20-25) loss to Toledo (14-16, 11-7 MAC) in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Sophomore
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) was the leader of Ohio's offense. Kharchynska tallied 18 kills and 19.5 points in addition to three block assists and three digs. Graduate student
Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) totaled 10 kills, 11 points and two digs. Ohio's third leading scorer was freshman
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) as she recorded eight kills, two assists, 10 digs, 10 points, two block assists and an ace.
The Rockets took the first set and the early 1-0 advantage with a 25-23 victory. There was a lot of back-and-forth with the Bobcats facing a tough Toledo defense. Toledo went on a 5-0 scoring run at the end of the set to secure the first win of the match.
Ohio came back with a 25-20 win in the second set, evening the match at 1-1. The Bobcats were faced with some good blocks by Toledo, but Kharchynska led Ohio to the win with seven kills and a perfect hitting percentage.
Toledo gained a 2-1 lead after taking the third set in a 25-18 decision. The Rockets went on to win the fourth set, 25-20, and the match 3-1.
