BOONE, North Carolina – Ohio field hockey (6-8) lost to Appalachian State (13-4) Friday (Oct. 27) by a score of 2-3 in overtime Friday (Oct. 27). With her two assists on Friday, Katelyn Whittle recorded her 100th career point, making her only the fourth Bobcats in program history to score at least 100 career points.

Overall, the Bobcats recorded 12 total shots, with eight coming on target. The Bobcats received six penalty corners and made nine saves.

Senior goalkeeper Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) played all 60 minutes of regulation, making eight saves in regulation. Lotze continued into overtime, registering three additional minutes and another save.

Lotze made a save early, but the first period started in favor of the Mountaineers, receiving a penalty stroke that would put the Bobcats down one within the first minute. But, the Bobcats offense remained on the offensive, securing a corner in the 10^th minute, which was taken by fifth-year Senior and reigning MAC Offensive Player of the Week Katelyn Whittle (McDonogh, Md.). The corner then found freshman Johannah Hildebrandt (Berlin, Germany), who set up a shot for sophomore Anouk Plaehn (Hanover, Germany), who slotted the ball into the net to level the game, her first goal of the season. It was Whittle's 8^th assist of the year and Hildebrant's 5th. The stalemate would remain after the first quarter.

The Bobcats looked to keep the offensive pressure, but to little avail early. Substitutions came left and right, but the teams were locked near midfield throughout. There were only three total shots in the period, and the score remained 1-1 into the half. At halftime, the Bobcats had three shots to the Mountaineers' six, with one save per team, Ohio had three corners, and the Mountaineers had one.

The Bobcats began the third much like they did the second, registering multiple shots from Whittle and Plaehn. The Bobcats had five shots on goal within the first seven minutes of the third, but no goals came about. Late into the third, the Mountaineers were able to find a goal against the pace of play. The Bobcats would take their one-goal deficit into the fourth.

Lotze made three saves early in the fourth to keep the Bobcats in the game, also fending off an early corner. The Bobcats were able to get consecutive corners in the 55^th and 56^th minute, but on the second corner, senior Meela Kopp (Louisville, Ky.), assisted again by Hildebrandt and Whittle, their second assists of the game. The goal was Kopp's fourth of the season, and extended Whittle's lead in MAC assists to nine on the season. Whittle also leads the MAC in goals and points, in which she notched her 100th career point in this game. The game remained level, but App State continued to pressure the Bobcats defense with four consecutive corners with three minutes left in the game, but the Bobcats' defense did not concede. With less than a minute left, the Mountaineers were able to find the net, but the goal was ruled off by the referees for the third time in the game. With 50 seconds on the clock, the game remained level and would go to overtime.

At the end of regulation, the Bobcats had 12 shots to the Mountaineers' 16, with both teams making eight saves.

In overtime, Lotze made an early save, slashing the ball out of the air emphatically. But, the Mountaineers were able to find the winner in the fourth minute, leading to a Bobcat defeat.
