OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio soccer team (4-7-5) lost today (Oct. 19) to Miami (6-10-1) by a score of 1-0.

It was a rainy night under the lights for this rendition of the Battle of the Bricks. Both sides eagerly anticipated the rivalry game seeking to gain important points as the season inches to a close.

The Bobcats earned the first chance of the game after a long ball into the box from junior Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) caught the Redhawks on their heels. A pass was made to senior Shae Robertson (Lexington, Ky.) in front of the net. However, Ohio's leading goal-scorer was unable to fire the ball past the Miami keeper.

Ohio found another scoring opportunity also coming from a long-ball. This time it was senior Ella Bianco (Dayton, Ohio) passing the ball into the box. She connected with senior Carsyn Prigge (Lexington, Ky.) whose header was on track for the bottom left corner, until the keeper made another nice save.

Ohio's goalkeeper, sophomore Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio), responded with an amazing double save of her own. A breakaway down the left wing left the Bobcat defense exposed but Sloma made a strong save to deny the Redhawks. The rebound fell to another Miami attacker but Sloma made another great save diving to her right. The efforts kept the match all square, 0-0.

The game would remain scoreless entering the break. Ohio had five shots on goal to Miami's four, while each team recorded a corner kick.

Miami broke the scoring nearly 15 minutes into the second half. A cross to the top of the box led to a looping header that found the back of the net. The goal put Miami ahead by a score of 1-0.

Freshman Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) provided the Bobcats with one of their better opportunities in the second half. Unfortunately, her shot on the right side of the goal was saved.

The final whistle blew and the Bobcats fell with a final score of 1-0. Ohio totaled 13 shots, eight on goal, and the lone corner. Sloma added seven saves in the loss.  Miami had 17 shots, eight on target, and three corner kicks.
