ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team has announced its captains for the 2023-24 season, head coach
Mason Norman announced. Seniors
Gabrielle Brust,
Gabrielle Loring and
Meg Voigt were announced as this year's captains prior to Ohio's Green and White Scrimmage on Sept. 29.
"Our captains were chosen by their teammates because of their commitment toward the vision of our program," head coach
Mason Norman said. "I look forward to supporting Meg, Gabby, Gabrielle as they lead our team this season."
Brust (Granville, Ohio) is in her fourth season with the Bobcats. Brust is a three-time All-MAC selection, a two-time Academic All-MAC pick and a 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District Team pick. Last season, Brust competed in 11 meets and recorded several podium finishes. She competed in two events at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships and placed third in the 100-yard fly (53.19) and sixth in the 200-yard fly (2:00.14) at the MAC Championships. She was a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay that placed sixth at the MAC Championships and finished 11th in the 100-yard fly finals and 11th in the 50-yard fly finals with a career-best time of 24.38 at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships.
Loring (Hudson, Ohio) is in her fourth season with the Bobcats and is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection. Last season, Loring Competed in eight meets, placing fifth in the 400-yard IM with a career-best time of 4:31.22 at the Ohio State Winter Invitational. In her sophomore season, Loring swam career-best time of 4:35.31 in the 400-yard IM at the MAC Championship and in her freshman season, Loring Competed in three events at the MAC Championship, swimming career-best times of 1:54.08 in the 200-yard freestyle and 17:21.51 in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) is in her fourth season with the Bobcats and is a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree. Last season, Voigt Competed in ten meets and competed at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. She swam a career-best times of 23.19 in the 50-yard freestyle, 50.49 in the 100-yard freestyle, and 1:49.84 in the 200-yard freestyle at the MAC Championships. She placed first in the 200-yard freestyle, second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard freestyle against Denison and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle against Marshall.
Brust, Loring and Voigt open the 2023-24 season on Friday, Oct. 13 when they host Illinois State in Athens. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. inside the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
