Ohio Women's Volleyball Defeats Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Ohio volleyball team (3-2, 0-0 MAC) takes down Tulane (3-3, 0-0 AAC), 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 25-10) on the road at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.

The Bobcats defeat Tulane in a four-set battle on Saturday (Sept.3). In the first set, both teams went back and forth but the Bobcats found themselves down 5-9 after a four-point run by the Green Wave after being tied at 5 all. The Bobcats then regained momentum and worked back to tie it at nine all. After several more back and forth runs, both teams found themselves tied at 23 all. The Bobcats refused to settle and pushed out two final points to win the first set 25-23.

In set two, both Ohio and Tulane came out hungry once more. Similar to the first, they went back and forth throughout the entirety of the set; being tied at 7-7, 11-11, 13-13, 19-19. The Bobcats then took a five-point run to gain the lead at 24-19, but the Green Wave fought back making the score 24-21 before the set ending kill by O'Farrell. The final score of the second set was 25-21. 

Tulane came out for revenge in the third set gaining the lead early. The Bobcats fought back to close the gap and tied it at 13 all after trailing behind. The Bobcats and Tulane fought point for point until the Green Wave took the lead once more at 22-19, before finishing the set 25-20. 

The Bobcats had the lead from the start of the fourth and ran with it until the final point of the match. Ohio dominated in the fourth and final set to take the win at 25-10.

Overall, Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) led the Bobcats offense with 22 kills, and 40 attacks. Not far behind was Junior Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) with 19 kills, 37 attacks. Margolies also had 17 digs which followed the defensive leader, Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) who had 20 digs. Junior Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) added 39 assists, while senior Parker Kwiatkowski (Grand Rapids, Mich.) posted 15.  

Up next, Ohio will host the Bobcat Invitational here in Athens, Ohio where they will take on Bradley, Loyola Maryland, and Tennessee Tech September 9th and 10th.
