ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (8-5, 2-0 MAC) defeated Miami (Ohio) (5-8, 0-2 MAC), 3-1 on Saturday (Sept. 24) inside the Convocation Center.
Ohio outhit Miami .303 to .139 with 52 kills off 137 attempts. Additionally, the Bobcats collected 58 digs to the RedHawks 46.
Ohio dominated the first set, putting together multiple runs of four or more to take set one 25-11. However, the Bobcats struggled to carry their momentum into set two. Despite 17 ties and eight digs, Ohio could not put the set away, falling 23-25.
Miami got out early in the third set, scoring nine of the first 12 points. After a timeout by Ohio, the Bobcats were able to close the gap, tying the set at 10-10. After trading some points, Ohio was slowly able to expand on its lead. The Bobcats secured their second set win with a score of 25-19.
Set four started off close, with neither team able to pull ahead. Two consecutive errors by the RedHawks started Ohio's 5-0 run, putting the Bobcats up 15-10. The Bobcats kept chipping away at Miami's defense, taking the fourth set 25-20 to win the match.
Senior middle blocker Caitlin O'Farrell (Suwanee, Ga.) led the Bobcats' offense with 15 kills and a .542 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Clippard (Cincinnati, Ohio) followed close behind with 14 kills of her own. Senior outside hitter Olivia Margolies (Galena, Ohio) tallied 11 kills and 11 digs to pocket another double-double. Additionally, juniors Tria McLean (Battle Creek, Neb.) and Sam Steele (Omaha, Neb.) recorded match highs in their respective areas. McLean collected 43 assists while Steele totaled 23 digs.
Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Bowling Green to face the Falcons on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. ET.
