
Ohio Field Hockey Falls to Miami on the Road

OXFORD, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (3-2, 0-1 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference play on Friday afternoon (Sept. 16), falling to Miami (4-3, 1-0 MAC), 3-0, at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.Â

Overall, Miami outshot Ohio, 11-6, with seven shots on goal to Ohio's three. Miami also generated five comers, while the Bobcats registered three.Â

Individually, freshman Anouk Plaehn (Lower Saxony, Germany) recorded two shots with one on goal, as did junior Maddie Coombe (Louisville, Ky.). Freshman Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) also added shot attempts for the Bobcats.Â
In net, graduate student Nele Graner (Boon, Germany) played all 60 minutes, allowing three goals and making four saves on 11 shots faced.Â

After an uneventful first quarter, Miami struck in the opening minute of the second quarter, taking a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. After the Bobcats were able to generate several chances in the second quarter, Ohio was unable to capitalize, however, Miami struck again in the 29th minute, taking a 2-0 lead into the half. Â

Overall, Miami outshot the Bobcats in the first half, 4-3 with three shots on goal to the Bobcats' one.Â

After a scoreless third quarter from both squads, Miami added on in the fourth quarter on a goal in the 57thminute, giving the RedHawks a late 3-0 lead. Over the remaining three minutes, the Bobcats were unable to generate any extra chances to get on the board, falling 3-0.Â

The Bobcats are back in Athens Sunday, Sept. 18 when they host Queens University of Charlotte. First touch is set for Noon ET at Pruitt Field.Â
