Ohio Soccer Battles No. 24 Xavier to 0-0 Draw

Cincinnati, Ohio – After an hour weather delay, the Ohio soccer team (0-1-1) returned to action Sunday night, battling No. 24 Xavier)1-0-1) to a 0-0 draw at Corcoran Field.
 
"Very proud of the effort from our entire group tonight," head coach Aaron Rodgers said. "We were not at our best at Duquesne Thursday night and we had to respond tonight. To get a draw by not giving up a goal to the reigning Big East champions and #24 team in the country shows what we are capable of. The energy from our entire group was amazing"
 
Overall, the Bobcats were out-shot 15-4, with four Xavier attempts reaching goal, compared to Ohio's two. Meanwhile, Xavier attempted six corners compared to the Bobcats' one. 
 
Individually, freshman Eve Berish (Hudson, Ohio) recorded two shots with one on goal, while junior Shae Robertson (Lexington, Ky.) recorded one shot with one on goal. Redshirt senior Haley Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) also added one attempt for Ohio. 
 
In net, freshman Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) was solid, recording her first career shutout, making four saves on 15 shots faced. 
 
Both teams entered the half tied at 0-0 with Xavier holding the advantage in attempts, 9-2, while recording two shots on goal compared to Ohio's one. Xavier also recorded five corners to the Bobcats' one. 
 
Individually, Miller and Robertson recorded the attempts for Ohio. 
 
Ohio and Xavier battled it out during the final 45 minutes, with Ohio attempting two shots to Xavier's six. Over the remaining mibutes in the second half, the Bobcats' defense held strong, with Sloma making two saves and helping seal the 0-0 draw. 
 
The Bobcats are back in action next Sunday, Aug. 28 when they take on Marshall. First touch is set for 7 p.m. in Huntington, W. Va.
