OXFORD, Ohio— The Ohio baseball team (19-17, 11-10 MAC) jumped ahead of rival Miami (17-24, 12-16 MAC) in the first inning, ultiamtely defeating the RedHawks 7-3.
Individually, redshirt senior
Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) led the way, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs which fifth year
Spencer Harbert (Middletown, Del.) went 3-for-5 with one double, one RBI and one run scored. On the mound, fifth year
Edward Kutt IV (Westlake, Calif.) went seven innings, retiring seven Miami batters and allowing three runs. Fifth year
Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) followed with two scoress innings, striking out three of the six batters he faced.
Redshirt freshman
AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) gave Ohio an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first. An RBI single from Harbert in the third extended their lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the inning, a groundout drove in Miami's first run.
After a scoreless fourth, senior
Will Sturek (Minnetonka, Minn.) doubled down the left field line, driving in senior
Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and fifth year
Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) to put Ohio ahead 4-1. The Bobcats extended their lead again in the seventh with a two-run home run from Richardson. A two-RBI single from the RedHawks in the bottom of the inning cut Ohio's lead to three runs.
Kasperbauer wrapped up the scoring with a groundout in the eighth, driving in redshirt junior
Xavier Haendiges (Salem, Ind.), putting the final score at 7-3.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow (April 30) for a doubleheader against the RedHawks. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m.
