LEXINGTON, Ky.— The Ohio baseball team's (5-5) offense was strong in their midweek game against Kentucky (11-3), defeating the Wildcats 9-8.
Individually, fifth year
Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) led the team, going 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Senior
Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and senior
Colin Kasperbauer (Sioux City, Iowa) registered three RBIs apiece. On the mound, senior starting pitcher
Brenden Roder (Sioux City, Iowa) went four innings, striking out four and giving up one run.
The Bobcats went to work immediately, scoring in the top of the first. Kasperbauer doubled, driving in Minzey and Peterson for the first two runs of the game. Later that inning, Kasperbauer scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Minzey crushed a three-RBI double to right-center field, putting the score at 6-0. After Minzey advanced on wild pitch, he scored the Bobcats' seventh run off a Kasperbauer single. Kentucky struck in the fourth inning, scoring their first run off an Ohio error. The next inning, a Wildcat home run drove in an additional run. Graduate student
Cael Baker (Gahana, Ohio) scored off a single to center field in the top of the sixth, putting Ohio ahead 8-2.
The Wildcats had a big seventh inning, scoring four runs of two singles and a double. They tied the game in the eighth inning, scoring off a groundout and a wild pitch. Redshirt freshman
AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) singled to right field in the ninth inning, driving in the game-winning run. Senior
Colin Sells (Lancaster, Ohio) drew two ground outs and a fly out in the bottom of the inning, securing the Bobcats' 9-8 victory.
UP NEXT
The Bobcats open Mid-American Conference play at Bob Wren Stadium with a doubleheader against Northern Illinois on Friday, March 11. Game one is set to start at 1 p.m. and will be seven innings, followed by a nine-inning game at 4 p.m.
