RICHMOND, Ky.— The Ohio baseball team (2-4) defeated Eastern Kentucky (3-4) 4-0 in the series finale on Sunday (Feb. 27) at Earle Combs Stadium.
Redshirt sophomore and starting pitcher
Jacob Tate (Louisville, Tenn.) was dominant in the win with seven shutout innings, giving up only four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Senior relief pitcher
Brenden Roder (Sioux City, Iowa) came in to close the game for the Bobcats, pitching two innings with no runs and only one hit.
The Bobcats' offense got started in the third inning as redshirt junior
Xavier Haendiges (Salem, Ind.) doubled with two outs. Fifth year
Isaiah Peterson (Lincoln, Neb.) came up next and hit a single to bring in Haendiges, taking the lead for the first time in the game. Ohio scored three more runs in the fifth inning;
Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) started the scoring with a single to bring in one run. Senior catcher
Mason Minzey (Grand Blanc, Mich.) brought in two more runs when he doubled to right-center field to stretch Ohio's lead to 4-0.
Haendiges and Finney led the Bobcats with two hits each. Eastern Kentucky starter Rian Yates pitched for less than five innings and allowed four earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts.
UP NEXT
Ohio will travel to Evansville, Illinois (March 4-6) next weekend to take on UIC on Friday and Evansville on Saturday and Sunday.
