Ohio Head Coach Tim Albin
Opening Statement:
"Great evening, great venue. Shout out to the student section. They showed out today and were loud. After the game was unbelievable. There was a ton of energy, offense, defense, special teams, and the student section. Offense kind of had some dull moments and we were not executing the high level. We're playing the hottest team in our conference, undefeated and that's going to happen. The defense kept getting stops. We get up and then they help them get the field goals, offensively. It went as flawless as we it could go till the last four minutes in the first half. Then, we have the pick six and Kurtis responded. Defense was on silent for quite a bit. It was a total team effort. I am very excited and we're going to enjoy this one. We're going to come back to work and continue to improve. Keep working hard and improving.
On his satisfaction of the team bounce back after the end of the first half:
"Yeah, they are over unbelievers. That was shown. Our guys just kept believing and making plays. This was not just one guy, it's spread out. We were able to close it out with good running plays at the end. I told the guys before the game that they've earned this stage. So, we're at this point 1-0. We got a chance here to make next week's stage a bigger one than the one we're in. It's surviving and advancing. It is what it is. Here we are, just very excited. We're looking forward to correcting some things on film and getting on to this next one.
On his confidence in Rourke in making short yard option plays:
"I thought Kurtis could have pitched the ball sooner than he did and I was voicing that very loudly on the headphones. But he is a cool and calm guy. It was very similar to the one that Sieh scored at Western Michigan. With our inside running game and some of the things we see defensively, this opens up the play. They complement each other.
On what statement this win put out:
"The team knows what is in front of them. We are not going to stick our head in the sand. Buffalo sat over across the river with a big bullseye on their chest all day today and now it is on our chest. We earned it. So, what are we going to do with it? We're going to prepare and come in and work hard. We're going to improve and if we improve, we're going to keep winning. I appreciate the question.
On Sam and Kurtis's connection on the field in the beginning:
"I was I was very, very animated. The first touchdown, I was like okay, that's two targets. I told you double digits. He had six at halftime and I put an eight I was again very stern. Okay, it's been targeted six. He's caught all six and we didn't get double digits. He is playing at an all-conference level and that is a fact. I wanted to continue to do that. The ball just got distributed. How about the catch by Jacoby, Miles, and James? I am very excited about the group.
On being bowl eligible:
"One of the goals was that we were bowl eligible and we'll see where that goes. Now that's out of the way so let's focus on the next one and the next stage and it felt really good to be in this atmosphere. All right. It really was, it's going to be very, very beneficial. I know there's some things early on, a little huffing and puffing their anxieties were up, you know, and we're going to be in a week's time in the same bigger atmosphere and so I am hopeful we can take this and be more efficient and better early in the game.
On how important a win it was:
"Very, and just all three phases, right? Distinctly the student section they were harassing our opponent and it was a great venue, but just how we've gotten better each week. Getting a couple of guys back. The back end today made some really good plays against some good receivers. We made them one dimensional offensively and, on the defense, we took advantage of some of the opportunities that they gave us and as a football coach when you get all three phases to accompany each other. It's you know it's going to be a great journey."
On holding Buffalo to a season-low yardage:
"To utilize our front seven and to take advantage of their inability to run the ball consistently. And I tip my hat to Mo, but we just struggled running the football and they tried to be patient with it. Offense we got the score they had to start throwing it. And you saw the sacks that a couple mistakes create, and the staff did an unbelievable job, we were so thin at running backs and secondary, I didn't even know what to tell them, I couldn't even recommend any solutions, I mean we were just out of people, and all we had was what was in the game."
On going seven-for-seven in the red zone:
"I think obviously the staff had a pretty good beat with what they were going to do. But I thought the plan was really good. That throw was unbelievable, and I said can you run the ball a little bit? So, the plan was good, but our players are executing at a high level, and I think to myself, who's going to get it? There is again double everybody, but I just can't get enough people out there. So, we protected Kurtis well, he was on his third hitch, and he dropped a dime to my house."

Redshirt Junior Quarterback Kurtis Rourke
On his confidence to run the option:
"We had a good look. We call it an optional look and stud like that. And you know I gave coach a heart attack a little bit when I kept it so long, but no it was just good execution and good blocking to capture the edge and Jake was able to get the touchdown. "
On overcoming his mistakes:
"You know we really have not done that this season at all and having to trust that we can get out there and respond. We've been put in some big adversity moments this season and that was just another moment. So mentally and personally, I just had to shake it off and get going and just trust that we can keep going."
On being seven-for-seven in the redzone:
"We got some really good weapons. I mean, we are throwing the ball and running the ball really well. So, no matter who gets the ball, we are able to make some moves. We got a lot of good game plans and stud, know what they were going to run in the red zone so our plays work out."
On being third in the nation in passing yards:
"I mean again, we have a lot of great weapons, and I had two just off the top of my head, one to him (Sam Wiglusz) and one to Jacoby. So, I wouldn't have the stats without these guys."
Graduate Student Wide Receiver Sam Wiglusz
On having two first quarter touchdowns:
"We knew that they were going to come out with a lot of cover one man looks and we have a lot of weapons that are doing a lot of good things right now. So, to be honest, we were hoping that they were going to do that and when they did, I got some isolation situations and was able to make some plays. So that was a great start of the game."
On offensive chemistry:
"I talked about it a little bit last week after the game. I think some of the most important things about the receivers is the trust from the quarterback. So, I've been fortunate to have trusted Kurtis as we got rolling here. So I appreciate it when he looks for me and so I'm just trying to build some plays and getting a touchdown every once in a while."
On having momentum from last week:
"We keep talking about one week at a time. And you know the further and deeper we go especially how we control our own destiny as of right now we're starting to realize that one game at a time mentality and we keep doing that. I think in the locker room you feel that everyone's on the same page and we're really excited for what can come so we've got to keep rolling."
Redshirt Senior Linebacker Keye Thompson
On defensive performance only allowing 10 points:
"I thought as a defense we played really well and came up with a lot of energy. We hit our keys and fundamentals and technique and we were rolling second half. We had a little miscue in the beginning and the defense responded and our offense came on to finish the job."
On making the quarterback uncomfortable:
"Just our coach knows he has a great gameplan he likes to change up the pressure. His blitzes that he puts together are terrific and it sets us up to be in the right place at the right time. He did a great job throughout this week game planning on these guys."
On holding Buffalo to 22 rush yards:
"It feels really good. I think our front seven played very well. Over the past couple of weeks our defensive line has gotten better and they are flying around in practice, and it shows in the game for sure."
