ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio field hockey team (5-6) returned to action on Sunday afternoon, falling to Ohio State (7-5), 7-1 at Pruitt Field.

Overall, Ohio State outshot Ohio, 22-9, with 18 of them on goal compared to Ohio's four. Ohio State also registered seven corners, while Ohio recorded five.

For the Bobcats, junior Maddie Coombe (Louisville, Ky.) scored the Bobcats lone goal, while freshman Mijntje Ligtenberg recorded an assist and two shots. Senior Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) added two shots with one on goal, while freshman Anouk Plaehn (Lower Saxony, Germany) recorded two shots with two on goal.

In goal, graduate student Nele Graner (Boon, Germany) played 45 minutes and made nine saves, while junior Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) played 15 minutes and made two saves.

Ohio State struck first in the fifth minute, scoring off a penalty corner, taking a 1-0 lead. After the first goal, both teams generated chances, but the game would go to the second quarter with the Buckeyes leading, 1-0.

The second quarter saw both teams get goals. After Ohio State took a 2-0 lead in the 18^th minute off a penalty corner, the Bobcats responded. In the 21^st minute, Coombe scored her first goal of the season, cutting the OSU lead to 2-1. However, the Buckeyes to their lead in the 29^th minute, scoring again on a penalty corner, giving them a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

At the half, Ohio State outshot Ohio, 11-5, with eight shots on goal to the Bobcats' two. Ohio State also registered three corners, while Ohio had two

Ohio State extended its lead in the third quarter, scoring in the 40^th and 43^rd minutes to take a 5-1 lead heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter saw Ohio State add goals in the 48^th and 56^th minutes. Ohio had a number of chances over the remaining minutes; however, Ohio State sealed the 7-1 win.

Up next, Ohio is back in Athens on Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Central Michigan. First touch is set for 2 p.m. at Pruitt Field.
