Loretto, Pa. – The Ohio field hockey team (2-7, 0-1 MAC) returned to action on Sunday afternoon, falling to St. Francis (3-4), 2-1, at DeGol Field.
The Bobcats struck immediately when junior
Katelyn Whittle (Glenwood, Md.) scored with an assist from freshman
Bodhi Littlefield (Oakland, Maine) 39 seconds into the match, giving the Bobcats the early 1-0 lead.
St. Francis tied the game six minutes later on a goal from Eva Valentini. The game would stay tied at 1-1 over the next 50 minutes until Valentini scored the game-winning goal with just under four minutes remaining to give St. Francis the 2-1 win.
Overall, Ohio out-shot St. Francis, 14-12 and took 10 corners compared to SFU's six.
Littlefield recorded two shots on goal and an assist, while Whittle scored one goal on two shots. Graduate students
Leah Warren (Hamilton, New Zealand) and
Jillian Shive (Lebanon, Ohio) both added one shot on goal.
In net, senior keeper
Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) played all 60 minutes, allowing two goals and making six saves.
Ohio returns to Athens next weekend for some Mid-American Conference action with the Bobcats taking on Ball State on Friday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. at Pruitt Field.
