
Ohio Field Hockey Pushes #23 Kent State to Brink in 2OT

KENT, OHIO-- The Ohio field hockey team (2-6, 0-1 MAC) was defeated, 3-2, in a double overtime thriller against #23 Kent State (5-2, 0-1 MAC) on Friday (Sept. 17) at Murphy-Mellis field.
The Golden Flashes took an early lead in the 12th minute as Sydney Washburn put the ball past Ohio goalkeeper Nele Graner. Graner made eight saves with three goals allowed in 80 minutes of play.
The Bobcats' defense held strong in the second and third quarters, not allowing a goal and limiting Kent State's offense to four shots with one on goal. The Golden Flashes extended their lead in the fourth quarter with another goal from Washburn in the 51st minute.
After falling behind 2-0, the Bobcats stormed back into the game. Freshman Bodhi Littlefield scored her second goal of the season just 43 seconds after Kent State extended the lead. Less than three minutes late, junior Lucy Davis scored her first goal of the season to tie the game and send it into overtime.
The Bobcats fired 12 shots in regulation with nine on goal. Junior Katelyn Whittle led Ohio with four total shots and three on goal. Graduate transfer Kaelyn Long also attempted three shots, all on goal.
Ohio wasn't able to get going in overtime, as Graner faced four shots and saved three of them to force a second overtime period.
In double overtime, Washburn netted her third goal in the 75th minute to end the game.
The Bobcats will stay on the road this weekend and travel to play Saint Francis on Sunday (Sept. 19) at noon.
