Jillian Shive Scores Hat Trick as Ohio beats Saint Louis, 7-3

IOWA CITY, IOWA-- The Ohio field hockey team (2-5) defeated Saint Louis (0-5) by four goals in a dominating 7-3 win on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 11) at Kinnick Stadium.
 
Fifth-year senior Jillian Shive led the Bobcats with the first hat trick of her career, scoring once in the first half and twice in the second half. Shive led the Bobcats with three shots on goal on just four shot attempts.
 
After the Bilikens opened the scoring in the first quarter, the Bobcats rattled off seven-straight goals. Ashley Willbur began Ohio's run with her first goal of the season in the 13th minute.
 
The Bobcats were able to net two more goals before halftime with Katelyn Whittle's third goal of the season in the 28th minute followed by Shive's second of the season off an assist from Sienna Sakich just a minute later.
 
The Bobcats out shot the Bilikens 9-3 in the first half to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Saint Louis wasn't able to record a shot against the Ohio defense in the second or third quarter.
 
Ohio opened the game up in the third quarter as Tasmin Williams scored her first of the season in the 44th minute, extending the dominant lead to 4-1. Freshman Bodhi Littlefield scored her first collegiate goal five minutes later.
 
Shive netted the last two goals in 34 seconds to complete her hat trick in the 51st minutes on assists by Kaelyn Long and Noa Desmaretz.
 
The Bobcats out shot the Bilikens, 25-5, with 16 shots on goal and seven penalty corners. Nele Graner earned her second win of the season as the starter in the game. Graner allowed one goal in her 45 minutes of play.
 
The win will bring the Bobcats to MAC play starting on the road at Kent State. Ohio will take on the flashes on Friday (Sept. 17) at 3 p.m.
