Ohio Wrestling Defeated by Kent State in Grudge Match

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio wrestling team (1-7, 0-4 MAC) suffered a 22-10 loss to Kent State on Sunday (February 7) at the Convocation Center in the annual Grudge Match between the archrivals.
The Golden Flashes edged the Bobcats in back-to-back wins by decision in the 125-and-133-pound bouts to open the match and never trailed.
Redshirt junior Kyran Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) got Ohio on the board with a 10-2 major decision win at 141 over sophomore Avry Mutschler, cutting the Bobcats' deficit to two points.
After the Flashes earned another win by decision at 149, redshirt freshman Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) made it a two-point match again by picking up a 5-1 win by decision over redshirt sophomore Ian Senz in the 157 bout.
Kent State post its fourth win by decision at 165, but redshirt freshman John Mark Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned a 4-3 win by decision at 174 to make it a two-point affair once again.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Kent State closed out the match with a win by decision at 184, a major decision win at 197 and another win by decision at 285.
Ohio closes out the 2021 regular season next Sunday (February 14) when it plays host to a 3 p.m. ET Mid-American Conference match against Cleveland State at the Convo.
