ATHENS, Ohio— The Ohio wrestling team bounced back from Friday's loss, defeating West Virginia 30-9 in their first home match of the 2021-22 season.
"I think
Oscar Sanchez got us started off and then it just steamrolled from there," said head coach
Joel Greenlee. "We had 41, a big pin there, and 49 a tech fall. We just got rolling and it's hard to stop when you've got that momentum."
Redshirt sophomore
Oscar Sanchez (Genoa, Ohio) started the Bobcats off strong with a 12-3 major decision victory at 125 pounds. Redshirt junior
Giovanni DiSabato (Hilliard, Ohio) followed in the 133-pound bracket with a 5-2 decision victory over West Virginia's Garett Lautzengeiser.
Ohio continued to dominate; redshirt senior
Kyran Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) quickly secured a victory at 141 pounds with a fall at 1:41. Next, fellow redshirt senior Alec Hagen (Eureka, Mo.) snagged a 16-0 victory by technical fall. At 157 pounds, redshirt sophomore
Jordan Slivka (Indianapolis, Ind.) won by decision, 3-0.
Freshman
Sal Perrine (Northfield, Ohio) secured an 11-6 victory by decision at 174 pounds, followed by a 10-3 win by decision for freshman
Zayne Lehman (Akron, Ohio) in the 184-pound bracket.
