BOONE, N.C. -- The Ohio field hockey team (3-8, 1-2 MAC) was defeated 2-1 by Appalachian State (4-4, 1-1 MAC) on Friday afternoon (Oct. 1) at Adcock Field. The Bobcats defended nine shots in the first half as senior goalkeeper
Nele Graner made four of her five saves in the scoreless first half.
The Mountaineers scored first with a goal by Pauline Mangold in the 33
rd minute. App State then added on to its lead in the 50th minute off of a goal by Friederike Stegen.Â
Ohio was able to answer quickly as freshman
Noa Desmaretz scored the first goal of her collegiate career off a Kaely Long assist just two minutes later, cutting the deficit in half. Desmaretz took three total shots during the contest, with two shots on goal.
Offensively, the Bobcats took seven shots with four on goal and four penalty corners while the Mountaineers fired 14 shots with seven on goal and six penalty corners.
