ATLANTA -- Former Ohio men's cross country runner Craig Leon will be making a return to the U.S. Olympic Team Marathon Trials, which will take place Saturday (Feb. 29), in Atlanta. This will be Leon's third appearance at the Trials after taking 26th in 2012 and 29th in '16. Leon will be competing for a top-three spot to make the team for 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The race will be broadcast live on NBC across the country, with the broadcast will beginning at 12 p.m. ET.
Leon is one of Ohio's most decorated men's cross country athletes in program history, going from a walk-on in 2003 to competing in the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He has enjoyed continued success beyond graduation. With a personal best of 2:13:52 when he finished 14th at Chicago Marathon in 2013, Leon has had a fair share of strong performances as a professional athlete. Leon finished 10th overall at the 2013 Boston Marathon and 11th overall (6th American) at the NYC Marathon in 2016. He also represented the United States at the Pan Am Games in 2015. Leon currently lives and trains in Eugene, Ore., and works for the University of Oregon as an MBA program manager for the Warsaw Sports Marketing Center in the Lundquist College of Business.
