ATHENS, Ohio -- It's Senior Night for the Ohio swimming & diving team (1-5, 1-3 MAC) on Friday (Jan. 31) as the Bobcats host their final home meet of the 2019-20 season, taking on regional rival Marshall (1-5) in a 6 p.m. ET dual at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
Ohio will honor three seniors prior to the start of the meet: Annie Gosselin (Naperville, Ill.), Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) and Katherine Redden (Fort Thomas, Ky.).
The Bobcats are coming off their first win of the season with a 188.5-110.5 home victory over Mid-American Conference foe Ball State last Saturday (Jan. 25). The Bobcats tallied 13 first-place finishes to knock off the Cardinals, with freshman Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio), junior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.), junior Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) and freshman Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.) each accounting for two individual wins apiece. Ohio's 'A' relay teams bookended the meet with a pair of wins, taking first place in both the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.47) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:33.96). Fortman was the first leg of both winning relay teams and collected two individual wins. The freshman's first victory came during the 100-yard backstroke (57.57) followed by her second win of the day in the 500-yard freestyle (2:03.43).
Marshall has lost the last five dual meets it has competed in. The Thundering Herd's only win of the season came over Youngstown State in Marshall's 2019-20 season opener on Oct. 5, a 216.5-81.5 victory. Marshall last competed on Jan. 18 in Nashville, Tenn., suffering a 141.5-106.5 setback to Vanderbilt.
Ohio and Marshall last squared off on Oct. 19, 2018, in Huntington, W. Va., with the Bobcats prevailing by a score of 169-131. The Thundering Herd is making its first trip to Athens since Jan. 26, 2018, when Marshall beat Ohio, 151.5-147.5.
After battling Marshall, the Bobcats will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to participate in the OSU First Chance Meet next weekend (Feb. 7-8).
