Ohio Wrestling Falls To No. 23 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa -- The Ohio wrestling team (1-2) fell to No. 23-ranked Iowa State (2-1), 33-6, tonight at Hilton Coliseum. Redshirt junior Zac Carson (Akron, Ohio) and freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) accounted for the Bobcats' two individual victories over the Cyclones. 

The match started with a forfeit to Iowa State redshirt sophomore Alex Mackall at the 125-pound weight class. From there, the Cyclones went on a 12-0 run. Redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen (Perrysburg, Ohio) wrestled a close match with redshirt freshman Austin Gomez at 133 but fell, 5-3. Redshirt freshman Kyran Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) lost by major decision, 13-0, to redshirt sophomore Ian Parker at 141, and redshirt freshman Alec Hagan (Eureka, Mo.) lost by fall in 4:56 to redshirt sophomore Jarrett Degen at 149.

Before the intermission, Carson earned the first win for the Bobcats at 157 with a 7-4 decision over redshirt junior Chase Straw, making the team score 19-3. Freshman Colt Yinger (Nelsonville, Ohio) continues to impress as he individually improved to 6-1 on the season with a hard-fought win over redshirt senior Skyler St. John, 4-3, at 165.

Iowa State returned to the win column and clinched the match at 174 with a 14-6 major decision over redshirt sophomore Joe Terry (Pickerington, Ohio). Junior Hunter Yeargan (Willard, Mo.) nearly pulled off the upset at 184 against No. 16-ranked redshirt sophomore Samuel Colbray. Yeargan put Colbray to his back in the third period, but Colbray escaped and took Yeargan down before the buzzer sounded, winning the bout, 9-8. Redshirt senior Willie Miklus teched redshirt junior Nate Hall (Lewis Center, Ohio), 17-2, at 197, and redshirt senior Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) lost to redshirt sophomore Gannon Gremmel by decision at 285, 7-3.

Ohio will host to its first home dual meet of the 2018-19 season next Thursday (Nov. 20) when it welcomes Chattanooga to the Convocation Center. The matchup is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. ET. It will be Ugly Sweater Night at the Convo, and fans will receive free Christmas ornaments.
