Huntington W.Va. â The Ohio womenâs swimming and diving team concluded the fall portion of the season at Marshall on Friday evening (Dec. 2) falling to The Herd 127-173.
The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay where the âAâ team of Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland), Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) and Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) placed second in 1:47.02. The âBâ squad of Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, England), Hannah Shinn (Waterloo, Ill.), Carrie Dukes (Monkton, Md.) and Lexie White (Waxhaw, N.C.) took fourth in 1:49.00.
Ohio would take first in the 1000-yard freestyle thanks to Mikayla Herich (Hebron, Ky.) who clocked in at 10:11.50 while teammate Ana Henderson (Danville, Calif.) took third in 10:16.69. Mackenzie Caruthers (Hilliard, Ohio) and Katherine Redden (Fort Thomas, Ky.) would finish in seventh and eighth in 10:47.85 and 10:56.15 respectively.
Zimcosky would finish first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.61 while Josie Barker finished second in 1:54.71. Kelsey Hahn (Oviedo, Fla.) took the fifth spot in the event clocking in at 1:56.43.
Next up was the 100-yard backstroke. Dawson touched in at 57.87 to take second in the event. Raley would take fourth with a time of 58.73 while Myriah Ariza-Balter (Evergreen, Ohio) and Katie Lemen (Carmel, Ind.) would take the fifth and sixth spots in 1:01.19 and 1:01.40 respectively.
The fifth event was the 100-yard breaststroke where Claire Mikesell (Clearfield, Pa.) claimed second in 1:06.60, Lahtinen took third in 1:07.12 and Mackenzie Hornstra (Naperville, Ill.) took fourth in 1:07.27. Shinn would finish in the sixth spot for Ohio clocking in a 1:08.07.
The sixth event was the 200-yard butterfly where Annie Gosselin (Naperville, Ill.) took third in 2:07.04, Emily Davis (Lexington, Ky.) took fifth in 2:07.56 and Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) claimed sixth in 2:07.78.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Van Lanen claimed first in 24.15, Barker claimed fifth in 25.12 and White took sixth in 25.27.
In the first diving event of the day, the 3-meter, Nicole Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) took third with a score of 207.83 while Olivia Dillon (Newcastle, Aus.) placed sixth with a score of 168.52.
Next was the 100-yard freestyle where Zimcosky took second in 53.19. Barker and Mikesell took fifth and sixth respectively with final times of 54.26 and 54.69. White would take the eighth spot with a time of 55.97.
The tenth event was the 200-yard backstroke where Dawson claimed another first place spot, touching in at 2:02.63, Gosselin came in third in 2:07.44 while Raley took fourth in 2:09.05 and Ariza-Balter would take seventh in 2:12.77
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Hornstra placed second in 2:24.00 while Emily Ortner (Concord, Calif.) took third in 2:24.08. Lahtinen would take the fifth spot touching in at 2:26.61 and Shinn would take seventh in 2:30.52.
Next up was the 500-yard freestyle where Herich took first in 5:01.91, Henderson took second in 5:04.67, Hahn took fifth in 5:09.73 and Emily Davis took eighth in 5:11.43.
Event 13 was the 100-yard butterfly where Van Lanen claimed second with a time of 56.42 while Dukes followed in third with a time of 57.06. Patz took sixth in 59.22 while Maddie Wyke (Columbus, Ind.) finished in eighth in 1:01.73.
The second diving competition, the 1-meter, followed with Dillon taking second with a score of 249.83. Hughes took fourth with a score of 223.35.
Next up was the 400-yard IM where Herich took second in 4:28.98, Gosselin took fifth in 4:39.49, Ortner took seventh in 4:41.78 and Redden took eighth in 4:51.09.
The last event of the day was the 200-yard freestyle relay. Ohioâs âAâ team of Van Lanen, White, Hornstra and Zimcosky took second with a time of 1:37.10. The âBâ team of Barker, Mikesell, Hahn and Lemen finished in fourth with a final time of 1:39.95.
Up next, the Bobcats will host Denison to kick-off the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 12 p.m.
