ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Ohio wrestling team finished in sixth place at the 39th annual Navy Classic in Annapolis, Md., on Saturday (Nov. 19). Indiana took first with 155.5 points while Navy (114.5) and Kent State (113.5) to round out the top three.

Ohio Top-5 Open Finishes
Sophomore Shakur Laney (Canal Winchester, Ohio) took second-place in the 125-class after dropping his first match of the season to No. 13-ranked Nathan Kraisser from Campbell in a 10-4 decision. Laney opened the competition with a fall victory over George Mason’s Trevor Mello at 2:15. Laney continued the competition with an 11-3 major decision win against Navy’s Brant Leadbeter and a hard fought 6-5 decision victory over No. 14-ranked Elijah Oliver from Indiana before falling in the final. Laney is 10-1 during the 2016-17 campaign.
Sophomore Cameron Kelly (Bellbrook, Ohio) cruised to the finals in the 133-pound class. Kelly took his first match of the competition by 16-1 by technical fall against Delaware Valley’s Max Styer, before taking his next two matches against Brown’s Jimmy Pawelski by fall (2:23) and a 9-5 decision over Indiana’s Garrett Pepple to reach the final. In the first-place match, Kelly fell to Mid-American Conference opponent Anthony Tutolo of Kent State in a close 5-4 decision and took second place. Kelly is 7-4 this season.
Redshirt junior Noah Forrider (Marysville, Ohio) took fifth-place in the 141-class. After defeating Kent State’s Chance Driscoli by a 10-2 major decision, he suffered his first loss of the season to Navy’s Zack Davis by decision (5-0). Forrider battled back in consolation bracket taking his next four matches, including a fall (2:43) over Kent State’s Ethan McCoy and taking a 6-0 decision against The Citadel’s Doug Gardenburr, en route to the consolation semifinals where he dropped a 3-1 decision to Binghamton’s Dylan Caruana. He then defeated George Mason’s Tejon Anthony by a 3-1 decision to take fifth-place. Forrider is 15-2 during the 2016-17 campaign.
Redshirt sophomore Zack Parker (Felton, Del.) wrestled to a third-place finish in the 285-class. Parker defeated Bucknell’s Rory Bonner by decision (10-5), but fell in his second match to Indiana’s Fletcher Miller by a 3-2 decision. Parker won his next three matches, including two by fall over Navy’s Quinton Brown (2:12) and The Citadel’s Joe Bexley (3:46), en route to a rematch against Fletcher in the third-place match. Parker took the rematch over Fletcher with an 8-6 sudden victory to take third. Parker is now 12-5 this season.
