Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio softball team dropped the first game of a two-game series to Mid-American Conference foe Miami, 4-1, in the first round of the `Battle of the Bricks' Saturday morning at the Ohio Softball Field.
Miami (28-20, 11-6 MAC) struck first in the top of the first inning when Tiyona Marshall scored on a sacrifice fly to leftfield by Eryn McCarver to put the RedHawks up 1-0. Miami added on in the top of the third inning on a two-run homerun by Shanyn McIntyre to increase its lead to 3-1.
The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Raven King (Alpine, Utah) singled through the left side to lead off the inning. She then advanced the second on a sacrifice bunt by Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio), and would score from second when Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) reached base on an error by the third baseman, cutting the Miami lead to 3-1.
After two scoreless innings, the RedHawks would add one more run in the top of the sixth inning when Bree Lipscomb scored on a sacrifice fly to rightfield by Hailey Reed to put Miami ahead 4-1.
The Bobcats mounted a rally in the bottom of the bottom of the seventh inning when Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) doubled, however she would not score and Ohio would fall by the final of 4-1.
At the plate, the Bobcats had two hits, a single by King and a double by Pyles. King would also reach base in the bottom of the fifth inning when she was hit by a pitch.
In the circle, Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) got the start, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out one in three innings. Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) came in relief and pitched four solid innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out one.
The Bobcats (15-27, 7-8 MAC) return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon to wrap up the series with Miami. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field.
