LEXINGTON, K.y. - The Ohio softball team dropped the final game in a three-game series against No. 12 Kentucky, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon inside John Cropp Stadium.
The Wildcats (18-5) got on the board first, taking a 1-0 on a Maisie Steed homerun to centerfield.
The Bobcats would threaten on the bases in the top of the second when Raven King (Alpine, Utah) was hit by a pitch and Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, M.D.) would hit a single to third putting runners on, however the Bobcats would not be able to cut into the Wildcat lead.
Kentucky would add on in the bottom of the third when Steed would hit a two-RBI single up the middle, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. Kentucky would go up 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
The Bobcats would threaten to get on the board again in the top of the sixth when Kaylin Clarke (North Royalton) would reach base on an error, with King advancing her to third after roping a double down the leftfield line. Unfortunately, the Bobcats would be unable to get a runner home.
The Wildcats would add two more runs to the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, and take the game by the final score of 6-0.
At the plate, the Bobcats had three hits. King went 1-for-2 with a double and Timmie Rappe (Wheaton, Ill.) was 1-for-3 with a trouble. Gebele added another hit, and Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio) reached base by drawing a walk.
In the circle, Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) pitched three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out two. Sydney Compston (Wellston, Ohio) put in two innings of work, allowing one run on two hits, and Clarke would work an inning, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out one.
Up next, the Bobcats (5-15) head to Dayton, Ohio to take on Wright State in a doubleheader on March 17. Game one is set for 3 p.m. with first pitch for game two slatted for 5 p.m.
