GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Ohio softball team dropped its final game of a three-game series to Furman, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
Furman (7-2) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs thanks to a two-run single up the middle by Sieara Bishop, putting the Paladins up 2-0. The Paladins added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Andrea Abbatiello scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Reynolds to give them a 3-0 advantage.
The Bobcats got on the board top of the sixth inning. The run was scored when Amanda Dalton (Salem, Va.) tripled to left center to lead off the inning and would later score on a sacrifice fly to leftfield by Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) to bring the game within two runs. However, the Bobcats would not get any more offense and would fall by the final score of 3-1.
At the plate, the Bobcats had two hits, the triple by Dalton and a single to centerfield by Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas).
In the circle, Lauren McClary (Pasadena, Texas) pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three. Mikayla Cooper (Delaware, Ohio), making her first appearance in the circle this season, pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. Leanna Bachman (Carroll, Ohio) would also get an inning of work in, pitching a perfect frame.
Up next, the Bobcats (4-7) will head to Cullowhee, N.C. for a double-header with Western Carolina on Tuesday, March 3. Game one is set to begin at 3 p.m. with game two at 5 p.m.
