HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Spiders posted their second straight victory, outshooting the Bobcats, 25-3 and winning the corner battle, 10-3. Two Richmond goals over the final 18 minutes of play proved to be the difference.
• Ohio senior goalkeeper Brittany Walker (Elizabethtown, Pa.) matched her season high of eight saves over 70 minutes in the cage, upping her season total to 31.
• Redshirt senior Lauryl Desch (Charlottesville, Va.), junior Adele Sammons (Upminster, England) and sophomore Kristen Buchanan (San Diego, Calif.) accounted for Ohio’s three shots.
• Richmond broke a scoreless stalemate in the 52nd minute when senior midfielder Rebecca Barry connected from five feet out for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
• Freshman forward Katrina Balatgek extended the Spiders'lead to 2-0 four minutes later for her first career goal, taking a pass from junior midfielder Avery Safford and striking from the low left corner. Safford’s helper marked her second of the year.
• Barry led Richmond with a match-high six shots -- including a match-high three on goal. Junior back Amy Cooke totaled five shots. Senior forward Blair Kline added three shots -- including one on goal -- while senior midfielder Samantha Ostoich recorded two shots on goal.
• Richmond senior goalkeeper Kelley Wentling posted her second straight shutout.
QUOTABLE
"The area of biggest concern is conceding shots and creating shots. We didn’t create enough to win the game, and we gave up too many to stay in the game. Britt was outstanding in the back, but we can’t lean on her for 70 minutes without doing something at the other end of the field." - 10th-year head coach Neil Macmillan
UP NEXT
The Bobcats travel to Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday (Oct. 4) for a showdown against Mid-American Conference archrival Miami University. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
