LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Ohio University softball team (13-12) concluded its spring break road trip on Sunday (March 9), falling to Louisville (12-6) by a 22-4 count in its final game at the Red and Black Classic at Ulmer Stadium.
Senior Alexandria Basquez (Elk Grove, Calif.) belted a two-run home run - her third round tripper of the 2014 season. Senior Alyssa Wolfe (Junction City, Ohio) tallied two hits and drove in a run.
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when freshman Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio) drew a two-out walk to set the table for Basquez's homer.
The Cardinals answered back by plating nine runs in the home half to take the lead.
Ohio cut its deficit to six runs in the ensuing frame when junior Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) coaxed a two-out walk and scored by way of a double to right by Wolfe.
Unfortunately for the `Cats, Louisville tacked on two more runs in the bottom half, then 11 more in the third to put the contest out of reach.
Ohio returns to Athens to play its first home games of the 2014 season, meeting Wright State on Wednesday (March 12) in a doubleheader that is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. ET.
