Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Ohio University softball team (8-1) plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings but ultimately fell to Tennessee Tech (3-7), 6-5, in eight innings on Friday (Feb. 21) at Warner Park in its opening game of the Frost Classic.

The Bobcats trailed the Golden Eagles, 4-1, heading into the home half of the sixth but got to work on making their comeback push. Junior Adrienne Gebele (Annapolis, Md.) got things rolling with a one-out double to left center. After Gebele was replaced on the base path with freshman Taylor Saxton (Circleville, Ohio), sophomore Savannah Jo Dorsey (Grove City, Ohio) slapped an RBI single up the middle to make it a two-run game. Sophomore Sloan Walker (Cypress, Texas) then entered the game to pinch run for Dorsey. Ohio cut Tennessee Tech's lead down to one courtesy of a double to left by junior Dakota Pyles (Galloway, Ohio) that scored Walker.

Dorsey retired the side in the top of the seventh, giving the Bobcats an opportunity to send the game to extras.

Ohio put the tying run on when sophomore Alexia Cortez (Beaufort, S.C.) reached on a passed ball to lead off the bottom half. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Casie Hutchinson (Lebanon, Ohio), then to third on another passed ball. Senior Alexandria Basquez (Elk Grove, Calif.) knotted the contest at four-all by lifting a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Cortez to tag up and score.

The Golden Eagles retaliated in the eighth, plating two runs to take a 6-4 lead.

Ohio answered in the home half when freshman Madison Claytor (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored on a single down the right field line by Gebele, but that's as close as the Bobcats got.

Pyles led Ohio at the plate with three hits and an RBI. Dorsey and Gebele each contributed two hits and an RBI, while senior Alyssa Wolfe (Junction City, Ohio) added two hits.

Ohio is scheduled to play Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. ET.
