ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Swimming and Diving picked up its fourth dual-meet victory on Saturday, defeating the visiting Denison Big Red by a final score of 186-101. The Bobcats posted the top time or score in each of the day's 16 events, cruising to a comfortable victory.
The Bobcats turned in a number of impressive performances across the board, but perhaps the most impressive of all was what freshman Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) was able to accomplish from the board. Bartlett cemented herself in Bobcat history with her scores from the one-meter board (293.62 - 3rd all-time in Ohio history) and the three-meter board (304.58 - 2nd all-time). Each of these scores is good enough to qualify her into the 2012 NCAA Diving Zones Championships, making her the fourth Bobcat to accomplish this impressive feat so far this season.
Ohio got off to a fast start on Saturday, grabbing a 57-16 lead after the first four events. The 200 medley relay team of Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio) picked up the first win of the day and was matched by strong performances from teammates Laurin Williams (1st - 1650 freestyle) and Abby Corcoran (1st - 200 freestyle). Stearns then earned another first-place honor in her second event of the day by swimming a 57.93 in the 100 backstroke.
Denison (4-3, 2-0 NCAC) gained some ground during the middle stages of the meet, picking up second place in the 200 butterfly and third place in the 50 freestyle, but the Bobcats made a statement by taking the top four spots in the three-meter diving competition.
The Bobcats will next be in action on Jan. 15 when they travel to Youngstown State. First event is scheduled for 1 p.m. Following this dual meet, the `Cats will host Marshall (Jan. 17), West Virginia (Jan. 27) and Ball State (Jan. 28) in three consecutive home dual meets.
