BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Ohio softball team split a Mid-American Conference (MAC) twinbill at Bowling Green on Friday at Meserve Field. The Bobcats prevailed in game one 4-2, before they dropped game two 4-1. Senior Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate in game two, while junior Alexis Joseph (Alvin, Texas) recorded four hits in her first four at bats of the day.

Senior pitcher Melissa Bonner (Kings Mills, Ohio) picked up the win in game and improved to 4-5 on the season. She threw a complete game and struck out three batters on the day. Sophomore Chelsea Hortman (New Palestine, Ind.) finished game one with two RBIs, and turned in the game-winning single in a pinch-hit at bat in the seventh.

With the score knotted at two in the top of the seventh of game one, Hortman hit a two-RBI pinch hit single up the middle that drove in Joseph and Jillian Van Wagnen (Lorain, Ohio) to give the Bobcats a 4-2 edge. The single proved to be the game-winner.

In the bottom of the seventh, Bowling Green put two on with two outs, but a double off the wall by Paige Berger was thrown into the infield by left fielder Paige Kemezis (Hackensack, N.J.). She threw to Sara Clark (Ontario, Calif.) at third base, where Clark tagged out Rachel Proehl to end the first game.

The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the first of game one with an RBI single to centerfield by Wethington, which scored Bonner on the play. However, Bowling Green (10-32, 4-15 MAC) responded in the bottom of the first with a run of its own on a bases loaded walk. Proehl scored the Falcons' run. After an inning the score was tied at 1-1.

Ohio (21-21, 10-8 MAC) claimed a 2-1 lead in the third when Kemezis hit a single through the left side that scored junior Brooke Morgart (Wayne, Ohio). The Falcons tied the score at two in the fifth.

In game two, Ohio jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. The run was scored on an Wethington single that plated Van Wagnen.

The Bobcats held the Falcons scoreless until the seventh inning, when Bowling Green scored four runs. The game-tying run crossed the plate on an RBI single by Proehl up the middle that drove in Lindsay Arney. Berger followed it up with a three-run home run to win the game 4-1 in walk-off fashion.

Wethington suffered the loss in game two and fell to 16-10 this season. Zada Lines picked up the win for Bowling Green and moved to 6-8 on the year. She struck out nine Bobcats in the win.

Ohio begins a two-game series at Toledo on Saturday, May 7, to conclude the regular season. First pitch of the series-opener is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
