ATHENS, Ohio - In a rain-shortened game at the Ohio Softball Field on Saturday afternoon, sophomore Lauren Gellerman (San Diego, Calif.) drove an RBI single off the right field wall to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Ohio defeated Eastern Michigan 3-1 in five innings in a Mid-American Conference (MAC) game.

Gellerman's hit came after an intentional walk to senior Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) to load the bases with one out in the fifth inning. She drove in Alexis Joseph (Alvin, Texas) and Paige Kemezis (Hackensack, N.J.) to lift the Bobcats to victory. Gellerman went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs on the day, while Kemezis reached base in all three plate appearances. She finished the day with two hits and a run scored.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the top of second. McKenna Russ led the inning off with a triple to right field on the first pitch from Wethington. She scored on a one-out single by Allison Scherer to give Eastern Michigan a 1-0 lead.

Ohio leveled the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Junior Jillian Van Wagnen (Lorain, Ohio) led off the inning with an infield hit back to the pitcher. After she stole second, she scored as a result of a fielding error by Stacie Skodinski. Van Wagnen hustled around third and scored on the Paige Kemezis (Hackensack, N.J.) line drive to shortstop.

The Bobcats scored their final two runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Gellerman singled off the right field wall and plated Kemezis and Joseph. The game marked Gellerman's first action in a month as she has not played since Ohio took on Long Beach State on March 23.

Wethington earned the win and improved to 14-8 on the year. She struck out four batters. With the win, Ohio improved to 17-19 overall and 6-6 in MAC play. Conversely, Eastern Michigan dropped to 22-12 overall and 8-6 in conference tilts.

The Bobcats will conclude a two-game set with the Eagles on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Ohio Softball Field. Prior to first pitch, there will be a Senior Day ceremony as a means to honor the program's six graduating seniors.
