Final Stats

DAVIDSON, Ohio-The Lehigh baseball team rebounded from a six-run deficit to score three in the sixth inning and four in the ninth to slip past Ohio 8-7 Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Lehigh improved to 1-2 overall, while Ohio dropped to 2-6.

Lehigh first baseman Austen Borden had two hits and three RBIs and shortstop Brendan McGaheran added three runs. Bobcat catcher Trace Voshell went 4-for-5 at the plate, while second baseman Bryan Barnes, first baseman Taylor Emody and designated hitter Seth Streich all posted a pair of hits.

Mountain Hawk reliever Cory Kent (1-0) picked up the win by tossing four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Ohio reliever Ben Trimbur (0-1) suffered the defeat, surrendering two earned runs on four hits in one and two-thirds innings with one strikeout and one walk. Ohio starter Brent Choban had a decent outing, allowing one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five and two-thirds innings.

The Bobcats had success in the early going again, plating three runs in the first inning and one in the second. Barnes knocked the first one home on a triple to right center and Emody followed with a run-scoring single up the middle. Voshell knocked the next home with another triple to the gap in right center. Center fielder Ethan Newton's single to right accounted for the Bobcats' fourth run.

Lehigh got one run in the fourth, but Ohio scored three more in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead. Left fielder Jensen Painter drove in the first tally with a single to center and, along with Voshell, came home to score when Lehigh booted a groundball by Bobcat third baseman Dan Ward.

The Mountain Hawks' final seven runs were aided by two Ohio errors. The Bobcats had a chance to close out the victory as they secured two outs in the top of the ninth with a 7-6 lead, but a costly throwing error allowed third baseman Kevin Mihalik to reach base and extend the rally.

Voshell singled to right in the bottom of the frame, but the Bobcats' own rally fell short with a pair of flyouts to end the contest.

Both of Streich's hits were doubles, giving him a team-best five on the year. Voshell now has a team-high 10 RBIs.

The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend with a three-game series at Tennessee Tech, which begins Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
