Bobcats Defeat Lafayette, 8-4

DAVDISON, N.C.-The Ohio baseball team picked up its second win of the season with an 8-4 victory over Lafayette Saturday in Davidson, N.C. in a neutral-site contest.

                                                                 

The Bobcats improved to 2-5 overall, while Lafayette dropped to 0-1.

                                                

The duo of designated hitter Seth Streich and first baseman Taylor Emody continued to shine and the pair combined to go 7-for-8 with five runs scored and two RBIs. Catcher Trace Voshell also added three RBIs.

 

The Leopards got two hits from center fielder Rob Froio and a pair of RBIs from designated hitter A.J. Miller.

 

Ohio pitcher Matt Robin (1-1) was credited with the victory, as he allowed just one run in four and two-thirds innings on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Reliever Taylor Stage came on and surrendered no earned runs over the contest's final four and one-third innings, with four hits, four strikeouts and two walks.  

 

Lafayette starter Zach Fritz (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs and 12 hits in five innings to go with four strikeouts and one walk.

 

Ohio jumped to a 6-0 lead in the game with three runs each in the first and fourth innings. In the first frame, left fielder Jensen Painter began the scoring with an RBI-single to center and Streich followed with a two-run double to left center. Second baseman Bryan Barnes drove in the fourth inning's first run with a single to left, while Emody did the same and Streich roped a run-scoring double to left center.

 

Lafayette answered with a run in the fifth, but the Bobcats got two more tallies in sixth on a bases-loaded Voshell walk and Streich's racing home on a wild pitch.

 

The Leopards plated three runs in the ninth for the final margin.

 

Emody also stole the first base of his career in the first inning.

 

The Bobcats will be back in action Sunday morning at 10 a.m. when the face Lehigh in the final game of their trip.
