Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio-The Ohio baseball team dropped a pair of games to Purdue Saturday by scores of 9-8 and 6-2 in doubleheader action at Bob Wren Stadium.
Purdue improved to 7-8, while Ohio dropped to 2-14.
Purdue got two RBIs in the first game from designated hitter Drew Madia, center fielder Jon Moore and shortstop Nick Overmyer. Madia, Moore, catcher Kevin Plawecki and right fielder Barret Arthur all had two hits. Left fielder Tyler Spillner raced home for three runs.
Ohio was led by a 3-4 effort at the plate by center fielder Gauntlett Eldemire, who also drove in a pair of runs. That total was matched by catcher Trace Voshell, who had two hits, as did third baseman Bryan Barnes and second baseman Zach Keen. Left fielder Robert Maddox III scored two runs.
Purdue starter Matt Jansen (1-1) got the win, tossing five innings, allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Kevin Cahill tossed the last one and two-thirds innings, nailing down his first save by striking out two and allowing just one hit.
Seth Streich (0-1), who was knocked out of the game early due to injury, took the loss after allowing three runs on four hits with one walk.
Maddox (fourth) and Voshell (second) had home runs for the Bobcats, while Eldemire stole his sixth base.
Plawecki had two RBIs for Purdue in the second game, while Arthur had three hits. Spillner and second baseman Eric Charles had two hits.
Ohio’s Barnes went 3-4 from his leadoff spot to lead the home team.
Boiler starter Matt Morgan (1-0) was the story of the game, however, as he fanned 14 Bobcats over seven and two-thirds innings, yielding two runs on six hits with just one walk. Ohio starter Ryan Bores (0-4) allowed five earned runs on nine hits in six and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Barnes got Ohio on the board first with his second home run of the season.
The Bobcats will be back in action Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET for a non-league tilt at Appalachian State.
