ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio swimming and diving team won 13 of the 16 events en route to a 171-123 dual-meet victory Friday evening against Akron at the Aquatic Center. Ohio's overall record improves to 3-0 with the win and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference, while Akron falls to 0-2 on the season, 0-1 in MAC action.
Junior Ashley Marion (London, Ontario) placed first in three events to lead Ohio. Marion won the 100-yard backstroke (59.53), the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.71) and swam the opening leg of the first-place 400-yard medley relay team. In the 400-yard medley relay, Marion teamed with junior Sarah Vaughn (Athens, Ohio), freshman Rachel Heim (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) to finish in a time of 3:58.36.
In just the second collegiate meet of their careers, freshmen Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Amanda Traylor (Los Alamitos, Calif.) won two events apiece for the Bobcats. Cecere finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:21.41) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.87) and Traylor placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.10) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.21).
Along with winning the 400-yard medley relay, Vaughn and Petersen also touched the wall first in their own individual events. Vaughn took the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.21 and Petersen placed first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.99.
Ohio sophomore diver Lindsay Hamilton (Saskatchewan, Canada) totaled 18 points for the Bobcats, placing first in both the one-meter dive (277.35) and the three-meter dive (286.65).
Ohio faces its second MAC opponent in as many days Saturday, when it faces Buffalo in a dual meet at the Aquatic Center beginning at 1 p.m.
