Walter Luckett was a member of the men’s basketball team from 1973-1975. He was named First-Team All-Mid-American Conference in 1974 and 1975 and honorable mention his freshman year in 1973. He was named All-American by Helms Athletic Hall of Fame in 1975 and Special Mention All-American by Sporting News and AP and UPI in 1975. He received an honorable mention All-Mideast by Basketball Weekly in 1975.  At the time of his induction, he ranked second in career scoring with 1,625 points in three years, behind Steve Skagg's four-year record of 1,741. Luckett ranks ninth among the top 10 career scorers in MAC history. Luckett also broke the scoring mark at Penn State's Rec Hall with 37 points in the 1973-74 season. He is still listed in seven record categories in Ohio University history. His 657 and 617 points as a sophomore and junior are still the two best single seasons in OU history. He was the first pick of the Detroit Pistons in the 1975 NBA draft.
