Roger Gilders

Roger Gilders was a two-time All-American pole vaulter whose vault of 16’6” was the Ohio University Goldsberry Track Record for 11 years. Gilders placed fifth in the outdoor nationals in the pole vault in 1977 and seventh in 1978 indoors. He won two Mid-American Conference titles in 1977 and 1978. At the time of induction, he held the OU indoor pole vault record of 16’ 15.5” set in 1978. He competed as a graduate student in 1981, taking third in the MAC. The son of former Ohio swim coach Fletcher Gilders, the pair became only the third father-son combination in OU Athletic Hall of Fame history.
