Robert Bertelsen was a national champion in the six-mile run in the spring of 1970, earning All-American honors twice with a 7th-place NCAA cross country finish in 1970. He won three track and cross-country letters, serving as captain of both 1970 teams. He won All-Ohio and the Mid-American Conference cross-country championships in 1969 and 1970. He was the All-Ohio three-mile champion in 1970. He was also the Mid-American Conference six-mile champion in 1969 and 1970 and was the All-Ohio cross-country champion in 1970. Bertelsen was a member of the Varsity “O” Club. He served as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee in 1971-1972 and at the University of Kentucky in 1972-1973.
