Pete Lalich was Honorable Mention All-Ohio, 1941-1942. Lalich, a defensive and rebounding specialist, was the center on Ohio’s National Invitational Tournament team that finished runner-up in 1941. He earned three basketball letters, 1940-1941-1942. He made the initial outlet pass that started the famed fast break. Defensively, he always drew the tallest man. Although not counted on offensively, he still contributed nine points and nine rebounds a game. An Ohio University basketball family, his oldest brother Nick was a member of the famed “Big Four” and was an All-Ohio and All-Buckeye standout in 1936-1938. His son Todd was a guard on the Mid-American Conference championship team in 1972. Pete played professional basketball in early National Basketball League.
