Nicholas "Nick" Karl graduated with a BBA in economics in 1964. He played golf from 1961-1963. He was a three-year letter winner for the Ohio golf team (1961-1963). Karl helped his team to win a Mid-American Conference Championships in 1961 and 1963. He won medalist honors at the MAC. As a junior, he shot a 62-72. This led him to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, advancing out of stroke play. He then later served as Head Coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point from 1967 to 1973. Karl also played one season on the PGA Tour before he took his first country club job.
