Ken Kowall earned three letters in basketball and was Mid-American Conference Player Of The Year in 1971, being one of only three Ohio cagers so honored at the time of induction. He was Honorable Mention All-American in 1971 (UPI) and Academic All-American in 1969. He was also a member of the Ohio All-Star Team in 1971. He was also First-Team All-MAC in 1971 and MVP of OU team. He held the record for most free throws attempted (16) in a game. He was the sixth highest scorer in a single season with 502 points in 1971. He helped lead the team to a MAC basketball championship in 1970. He scored 1,042 career points which still ranks 16th in Bobcat basketball history. In his first two years, he averaged 11 points a game. He held two school records in his time, top scoring average, 20.9 and most points in a single season, 502. In his final season, he averaged 20.9. In his playing career, Ohio won one championship and finished runner-up twice, with a team record of 54-21.
