Joseph Colvin was a unanimous All-Ohio and All-Buckeye Conference center in football in 1933, his senior year. He lettered three years in football (1930, 1931, and 1932). During his playing years here, Ohio University football won 22 of 25 games, including an undefeated (but once tied) year in 1930 where the record was 8-0-1. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau social fraternity. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1937. He served six years in the US Navy Medical Corps. and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
