Joseph Begala wrestled at Ohio University and graduated in 1929. He won the Buckeye State heavyweight title in 1927, the 175lb championship in 1928, and the 156lb championship in 1929. After graduating from Ohio, Begala coached at Kent State for 47 years. He coached football, wrestling, tennis, golf, cross country, and track. He was also the head trainer from 1929-1952. Most impressively, Begala is known as the best collegiate wrestling coach in history with a record of 307 wins, 69 losses, and 5 tied matches. He had seven undefeated seasons.
