Howard E. Jolliff was an All-American honorable mention for basketball and MVP of the Ohio team 1959-60 where he helped the Bobcats win the MAC championship. He made All-Mid-East Regional (NCAA) team that same year as well as receiving All-Mid-American Conference first team honors. He earned two varsity basketball letters during the 1958-59 and 1959-60 seasons, and was a member of the Varsity “O” Club. Jolliff signed with the Los Angeles Lakers following the 1959-60 season and played three years until knee injuries forced his retirement. He was the first Ohio University basketball player ever to play in the NBA.
